Manhattan Cocktail— This is one of the most common cocktails
served. It is made in many different ways. The original
Manhattan used whisky as the alcoholic base, flavored with Angostura
bitters and vermouth. Usually a so-called red cherry is
served with this cocktail. There are various modifications of
this drink, but generally built upon this plan.
Martini Cocktail — This is built up much in the same style
as the Manhattan, using gin as the alcoholic ingredient and
flavoring with vermouth and orange bitters. These cocktails
may be dry or sweetened. When ordered dry no sugar is used
in their manufacture.
Martini Cocktail Half a mixing-glass full fine ice, three dashes
orange bitters, one-half jigger Tom gin, one-half
jigger Italian vermouth, a piece lemon-peel. Mix,
strain into cocktail-glass. Add a maraschino
cherry, if desired by customer.
